Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL)OCUL is a consortium of 21 university libraries in the province of Ontario. Member
libraries cooperate to enhance information services in Ontario and beyond
through collective purchasing and a shared digital information infrastructure,
collaborative planning, advocacy, assessment, research, partnerships,
communications, and professional development.
Scholars Portal [http://scholarsportal.info/] is one of OCUL’s better known
initiatives. Scholars Portal provides access to a wealth of books, journals,
and data resources, as well as to services such as RACER (interlibrary loan),
Ask-A-Librarian, and ACE (an accessible content e-portal), among others.
OCUL is also undertaking the development of a shared vision of the future of
library management systems in Ontario’s academic libraries. The Collaborative Futures initiative [http://www.ocul.on.ca/projects/collaborative-futures]
is exploring the possible implementation of a shared next generation library
services platform, further collaboration in managing electronic and print
sources, and collaboration in preserving print resources.
